Hamilton Miami Gardens Theatre reviews
Hot music, cold performance
At his Nov 12th show in Chicago, Mr. Hamilton maintained his unmatched lyrics, stylings, and unmistakable voice, pleasing this huge fan. Unfortunately, I found a lack of engagement or courtesy towards the audience reciprocally back to him.
He started the show at 9pm, even though the opening act finished by 8pm. Mr. Hamilton only performed until 10:45, during which at least 20 minutes were spent mumbling almost incoherently into the microphone in a flight of ideas rant. Most in our section were equally confused about what he was saying or why he said it, disappointed by the limited song selection.
The Auditorium Theatre's set up allowing people to walk back and forth through the aisles during the performance to get alcohol left the audience restless, creating an atmosphere akin to listening to good music at a crowded bar or airport gate waiting for a flight. Many disengaged audience members loudly passed to the bar, spilling beer.
While his music is flawless, the $50 ticket price didn't seem worth it for the 6 or so songs he sang, especially when each is $.99 on iTunes. I was pleased with the few moments where I could block the rest out and concentrate on it.
